NICHOLLS BACK FOR LIONS OPENER

LEICESTER’S 2019 Championship-winning captain Scott Nicholls will be back for the club’s senior opener on Saturday April 11.

Nicholls will lead Coventry, another of his former clubs, in the East Midlands Bowl fixture – which also gives Watling JCB Lions fans the chance to thank him for his massive contribution over the last two years.

He joined the Lions in the top flight midway through the 2018 campaign and then led them to both the league title and Championship Shield last season, before switching to Kent over the winter as their midweek race-night is more suited to his other commitments.

Another ex-Bees rider confirmed for the meeting is Ben Barker, and they will be managed by current Swindon chief Alun Rossiter, who won the Elite League with Coventry in 2010.

The home side, meanwhile, will bring in Lion Cubs riders Danyon Hume and Joe Lawlor – himself a member of their senior side last year – at reserve, as Dan and Joe Thompson cannot race at that level before they turn 16 later in the month.

The twins will make their debuts on their birthday when the Lions travel to Kent for their Championship opener on Wednesday April 22.
